Art of War Warhammer 40,000 Doubles Event!

warhammer40000logo

The Saturday of the Art of War “Army in a Weekend” event, we are going to host the first Warhammer 40K Doubles event ever…at least at the Art of War! This will be a three round tournament, starting at noon on December 15th using the book scenarios (not the relic!)

Because this is a special scenario tournament, we will be using a unique army construction rules. Each player will need a one thousand point army built using the Allied Detachment army rules found on page 109 on the Warhammer 40,000 6th edition rulebook. Fortifications and Special (Named) characters are allowed in the event. At the beginning of the event, each player will be randomly assigned a team mate. In order to even the playing field, all alliances will be considered “Allies of Convenience” found on page 112 of the Warhammer 40,000 6th edition rule book, even if under normal circumstances would warrant a better level.

The Cost of this event is $10.00, which will be given back in prizes.

If you have any questions feel free to post on our forums or stop in the store.

Jade Samurai Results

The Jade Samurai Results are In!

First The Art of War staff would like to thank everyone for participating in the event. We received a total of fourteen entries across the three categories. We had some awesomely converted Ork stuff to some dirty plague infested demons. It was a great event and we will be doing this again. The votes were tallied and the owners voted and the results were quite close, but we were able to get the results in. To re-cap, the voting system was 50% customer votes, and 50% owner votes, creating a voting system not unlike a super mega-popular dancing show on prime time TV.

The category winners are as follows:

  • Best Character: Saint Celestine
  • Best Unit/Squad: Bretonnian Knights
  • Best Monster/Vehicle: Nurgle Daemon Prince

And the Best overall went too:

  • Saint Celestine!

Congratulations to all our winners and everyone who participated. The three category winners will receive a $50.00 gift card to the Art of War, and the Saint Celestine will also be given the first ever Jade Samurai trophy and have their name engraved on our winner’s plaque.

Now would be a good time to start practicing and preparing for the next Hobby event at Art of War!

Images will be posted as soon as we can get a nice camera to get some high quality shots.

The Jade Samurai Competition!

The Jade Samurai Competition!

That’s right everyone, the Art of War Gaming and Miniatures is hosting the first ever Jade Samurai Competition. What is this you ask? Well it’s a painting and modeling competition, that’s what! The show cabinets at the Art of War are getting a little stale and it’s time we get a few more awesome models to show off! So with the release of Sixth edition Warhammer 40,000 we think it’s time to test the modeling and painting skills of our local community.

Like the other ultra-famous painting competition, the Jade Samurai is going to be broken down into three categories: Unit/Squad, Monster/Vehicle, Character, and best overall. Any model from any system is allowed, however, the model needs to represent something from Warhammer Fantasy or Warhammer 40,000. Ultra awesome conversions and unique artistic license is allowed, just make sure you somehow label the models in a way in which people can tell what it represents. The winner of each category will receive a $50.00 Art of War voucher good for any Games Workshop product. The best overall winner will also receive the first ever Jade Samurai statue, proclaiming their amazing abilities!

So how will winning work? Like another really famous dancing reality show, the judging will be divided between customer votes and Art of War owner votes. When your model(s) are presented for display, they will be assigned a number and people will be able to vote over the course of two weeks. Once that voting is complete, the owners will vote and the overall winners will be selected from the mixing of those two items. Don’t worry, we’ll have an engine in place to make sure people don’t stuff ballets and vote a million times.

In alignment with this, the owners will also be competing for the grand title (and bragging rights) of Last Samurai Standing, a side competition where the customers get to select their favorite model(s) painted by the owners. Obviously there is no owner vote on this one, so will be totally determined by the loyal Art of War customers.

Completed Models are due on October 28th for display. They will be put into the display case for voting until November 16th. The winners will be announced on Saturday November 17th online and at the store. You do not have to be present to win.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them on the forums or talk to own of your awesome Art of War Owners!

We look forward to seeing what glorious creations you come up with. Good luck!
